"This nomination reflects our dedication to creating spaces that inspire and connect with our customers while celebrating South Africa’s unique heritage.”
A Celebration of Design Excellence
The SACSC RDDA is a hallmark of excellence in the South African property industry, recognising shopping centre and retail designs that embody creativity, functionality, and sustainability. The awards highlight projects that achieve clear development goals, respond to their market and surroundings, and adopt innovative and sustainable design solutions. Being selected as a finalist in this category underscores The Scoin Shop’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of retail aesthetics and functionality. The Brooklyn store was designed in partnership with Urban Flux Studios and Hubo Studios, whose expertise brought a sophisticated vision to life. Drawing inspiration from South Africa’s rich gold mining history, the store’s design seamlessly blends heritage with modern elegance, creating an inviting space for customers to explore premium gold coins.
A Store That Reflects South African Heritage
The Brooklyn store stands out for its thoughtful integration of South Africa’s cultural and historical landscape. Its design pays homage to the nation’s gold mining legacy, with subtle nods to the craftsmanship and value of precious metals. The team of Urban Flux Studios and Hubo Studios crafted a space that not only showcases the beauty of gold coins but also creates an immersive experience for visitors. Asher Marcus, founder and lead designer at Hubo Studio, noted, “We transformed a challenging layout into a dynamic, interactive space that aligns with Scoin’s brand identity, emphasising accessibility and engagement.”
Setting a New Standard in Retail Design
The SACSC RDDA finalist nomination highlights The Scoin Shop’s ability to respond to its market while embracing sustainable and innovative design solutions. The Brooklyn store is more than a retail space; it’s a testament to how thoughtful design can elevate the customer experience and contribute to the community. By combining aesthetic excellence with practical functionality, the store sets a high standard for independent retailers in South Africa. “We aimed to create a retail space that connects South Africa’s gold legacy with a modern customer experience,” adds Demby. “Every detail was intentional, balancing the representation of gold’s enduring worth with a focus on customer engagement.”
A Legacy of Excellence: 25 Years and Growing
Established in 1999, The Scoin Shop has built a reputation as the market leader for gold coins and bullion in South Africa. Marking its 25th anniversary in 2024, the company continues to expand its presence, serving collectors and numismatists worldwide. The Brooklyn Mall store represents a continuation of this growth, providing a sophisticated venue for acquiring high-quality gold coins and bullion.
"The Scoin Shop stands tall as South Africa's premier source for gold coins, and now we are reaching collectors with fresh energy. Our Brooklyn Mall store fuels this exciting growth, delivering top-tier quality and innovation for every investor!"
