Sir Elton Hercules John is recognised globally as one of the world’s most flamboyant and successful
singer/songwriters of all time.

Throughout his career as an entertainer, he has collected an impressive amount of awards for his musical efforts, including 26 gold, 38 platinum, 1 diamond, 40 platinum and 23 gold albums over 50 Top 40 Hits. He has also sold over 300 million records worldwide. Currently, Elton John’s 1997 hit “Candle In The Wind” holds the record for the biggest selling single of all time, selling over 33 million copies globally.

Elton John has gone on to tour the world, impressing fans in over 80 countries with his radical outfit choices and extravagant spectacles that have become his signature style.

Born in England in 1947 as Reginald Kenneth Dwight, he proved at a young age that he was a musical genius. At the age of three years, he played The Skater’s Waltz by ear, and by age 11 he had been awarded a scholarship at the royal Academy of Music where he went on to fine tune his musical talent.

He has gone on to produce songs for many musicals, including The Lion King, Aida (2000) and Billy Elliot.

At the age of three years, he played The Skater’s Waltz by ear

Coin designer Bradley Morgan Johnson chose to depict Elton John’s iconic musical note glasses and straw boaters hat in the coin’s design on the reverse side. This innovative coin design showcases a pulsating pattern in the lenses of the glasses, while the piano keys wrap around the edge of the coin. The obverse shows the effigy of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

This is yet another rare way for music fans around the world to celebrate the iconic Sir Elton John.
