The Second World War devastated thousands of lives, with a staggering loss of life. The six-year period of battle claimed an estimated 60 - 80 million people’s lives, including 6 million Jews who were slaughtered in the Nazi concentration camps. The war officially ended on 2 September 1945, bringing relief to the world as the horrors of World War II echoed through the world. 

Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, this 5oz Silver coin designed by design duo Matt Dent and Christian Davies comes in a beautiful proof condition, meaning that these coins have been carefully crafted by the mint from hand-selected planchets, polished dies and multiple strikes. All this produces exquisitely frosted details that appear to be rising over mirror-like fields. 

This commemorative coin was designed, undertaking the challenge of creating a truly special coin. The words “War” and “Peace” are overlaid, while the design itself is simple but brings forth the stone-engraved typography of war memorials. The word “Peace” has a greater significance, emphasizing the importance of the world working to maintain peace. 

The obverse of the coin depicts the 5th portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark. Produced in partnership with Imperial War Museums, this historic coin is a tribute to the human cost of war and a crucial reminder of the necessity to strive for global peace.

Each coin comes beautifully displayed in original mint packaging that consists of a display case and a Royal Mint Certificate of Authenticity.
