Turning Heads in KZN: The Scoin Shop’s Gold Fleet Takes to the Road

A fleet of gold-branded e-hailing vehicles brought The Scoin Shop’s “Hold the Gold Standard” campaign to the streets of KwaZulu-Natal, celebrating the spirit of the Comrades Marathon while turning everyday journeys into unforgettable brand moments.

For a few bright, unforgettable moments in KwaZulu-Natal, gold was not sitting in a display cabinet. It was out on the road.

As part of a bold local promotional campaign, The Scoin Shop took to the streets in a fleet of striking gold-branded e-hailing vehicles. Wrapped in the brand’s unmistakable metallic finish and carrying the message, “Hold the Gold Standard”, the vehicles were designed to turn heads, create conversation and bring a little extra shine to everyday KZN life.

And shine they did.

Whether spotted in traffic, outside a busy office precinct or travelling through the city together, the gold fleet made an immediate impression. It was a simple but highly visual way to put The Scoin Shop in front of new audiences, taking the brand beyond traditional advertising spaces and into the daily rhythm of the province.

The campaign reached a particularly memorable moment around the Comrades Marathon, when the vehicles appeared in a coordinated “swarm” to support athletes taking on one of South Africa’s most iconic endurance events.

There could hardly have been a more fitting setting.

For Comrades runners, every kilometre represents a personal challenge. Some are chasing a personal best. Others are running for a cause, a loved one or the sheer satisfaction of proving to themselves that they can go the distance. And, naturally, there is the ultimate prize at the finish line: a hard-earned medal, whether gold, silver, bronze or something even more meaningful.

Our gold vehicles offered a cheerful salute to every runner pursuing their own version of achievement.

The Comrades Marathon has always been about more than the race itself. It is about resilience, discipline, courage and the ability to keep going when the road becomes difficult. These are qualities that South Africans recognise and admire, whether they are cheering from the pavement, supporting a loved one at the finish line or taking on a challenge of their own.

For The Scoin Shop, the campaign was an opportunity to be part of that energy.

The gold fleet added a sense of theatre and celebration to the streets, while reinforcing the brand’s strong visual identity in a fresh and unexpected way. There is something inherently joyful about a convoy of gold vehicles moving through the city: it is confident, eye-catching and impossible to ignore.

Most importantly, the activation demonstrated the power of a well-timed, well-placed brand moment. By linking the campaign to the excitement of Comrades season, The Scoin Shop was able to connect with an audience already thinking about endurance, ambition and the pursuit of something worth striving for.

Gold has always had presence. This time, it arrived with four wheels, a driver and a front-row seat to one of KZN’s proudest sporting traditions.
