Beautiful displays might catch the eye, but there's a lot more to running a great store. Just ask the team at The Scoin Shop in Canal Walk!
The Scoin Shop at Canal Walk, Cape Town, has been named a nominee in the Small Retailer category of the 2026 Canal Walk Retail Excellence Awards.
And while we didn't take home the top prize, being recognised among the shopping centre's standout retailers is certainly something worth celebrating.
What makes an excellent retailer?
It's not just about having a beautiful shopfront or perfectly polished display cabinets.
The Canal Walk Retail Excellence Awards take a much broader look at what makes a store successful. From trading performance, sales and footfall to customer service and day-to-day operations, there's plenty happening behind the scenes.
Then there are the mystery shoppers!
These undercover visitors put stores and staff to the test, assessing the kind of service real customers can expect. It's one thing to deliver excellent service when you know someone is watching. Quite another when you don't!
Small store, big commitment
At The Scoin Shop, we're passionate about rare collectable coins, modern numismatics and the fascinating stories behind every piece.
But beautiful products are only part of the experience.
Whether someone is an experienced collector, searching for a special gift or simply curious about a coin in the display cabinet, our team aims to make every visit welcoming, informative and memorable.
And that's where the human touch makes all the difference.
A round of applause for our Canal Walk team!
Retail excellence takes teamwork, attention to detail, dedication and a genuine commitment to customers.
We're proud of our Canal Walk team for earning this nomination and for representing The Scoin Shop among some of the centre's leading retailers.
Because great retail isn't just about what you sell. It's about how well you do everything else.
