A New Home for Curious Collectors: Visit Us at Hyde Park Corner

Discover Hyde Park Corner’s new boutique for rare coins, precious metals, and the remarkable stories behind them.

When most people think of Hyde Park Corner, coins are probably not the first thing that comes to mind.

Fashion? Certainly.

Fine dining? Absolutely.

Beautifully crafted objects with a story behind them? Without question.

Which is precisely why we chose it as the home of our newest flagship boutique.

The recent opening of The Scoin Shop at Hyde Park Corner marks an exciting new chapter for our business, but it also reflects something bigger. Across South Africa, people are becoming increasingly drawn to objects that feel authentic, meaningful and lasting. Whether it's art, design, watches, books or collectables, there is a growing appreciation for pieces that carry a sense of history and craftsmanship.

That's a world we know well.

For more than five decades, The South African Gold Coin Exchange and The Scoin Shop have connected collectors with remarkable coins and precious metal products from around the world. Over the past year, we have continued to expand that journey, opening two new stores in the Western Cape while undertaking a nationwide refurbishment programme across our existing locations. Today, our footprint spans 13 stores across four provinces.

The new Hyde Park boutique is the latest addition to that story.

But if you're expecting a traditional retail store, you may be surprised.

From the outset, we wanted to create a space that felt less like a shop and more like a place of discovery. The result is a boutique environment where visitors can take their time exploring carefully curated collections from some of the world's most respected mints, alongside rare historic coins, modern numismatic works, limited-edition releases and gold and silver bullion products.

Of course, coins are made from precious metals. But what makes them truly fascinating is often the story they tell.

A coin can commemorate a historic event, celebrate an important cultural milestone or capture a moment that shaped a nation. Others showcase extraordinary artistry and craftsmanship, transforming precious metal into something that feels closer to sculpture than currency.

That is why collecting is such a personal pursuit.

Very few people become interested in coins because of technical specifications. More often, it begins with curiosity. A fascination with history. A love of design. A connection to a place, a person or a moment in time.

As Rael Demby, CEO of The Scoin Shop, explains:

"The most meaningful collections are rarely built around a single theme. They reflect personal interests, memories and experiences. In many ways, collecting is the preservation of stories."

That idea feels particularly relevant today.

In a world where so much of life exists on screens, there is something deeply satisfying about holding a tangible piece of history in your hand. Coins connect us to people, events and achievements in a way that feels immediate and real. They remind us that some stories are worth preserving.

The Hyde Park boutique has been designed with that experience in mind. Warm finishes, carefully considered lighting and thoughtfully arranged displays allow each piece to be appreciated on its own merits. Private consultation spaces offer discretion and comfort, whether you're a long-time collector or simply exploring the world of numismatics for the first time.

Ultimately, this new store is about more than coins.

It's about curiosity. It's about craftsmanship. It's about discovering objects that carry meaning beyond the material they are made from.

So if you find yourself at Hyde Park Corner, we'd love you to stop by.

You may arrive expecting to see coins.

You might leave having discovered a few stories as well.
