To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Krugerrand, 1765 proofs were made. There were also two special Krugerrand proofs produced in 1997, the 30th AnniversaryΒ Mint MarkΒ Krugerrand ProofsΒ were made with a mintage of 330. The β30β privy mark can be found on the top right field of the reverse next to the Springbok. The other special Krugerrand Proof produced in 1997Β isΒ was theΒ Sabi-SabiΒ Game ReserveΒ Mint Mark Proof coins produced, however it came with a notorious legacy. The said Mint Mark,Β Sabi-SabiΒ Game Reserve, appearing as an βSSβ on the coin itself, proved controversial as you could well imagine, as it was too reminiscent of the Nazi βSSβ insignia for the large Jewish population living in SA,Β With a planned mintage of only 300, however, a total of 72 saw the light of day, and therefore remains as not only one of rarest, but the most controversial Krugerrands of all time.
