This first coin in the Music Legends coin collection features one of the most iconic rock bands of all time - Queen. This coin has been produced by The Royal Mint and is a commemorative coin that launched in January 2020 as part of the Music Legend collection. The coin celebrates the rock band that defined decades and shifted the world with each hit song. This tribute coin encapsulates Queen’s legacy with each design, allowing collectors to own a piece of this iconic rock history.
The coin boasts Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on one side, designed by English engraver Jody Clark. While the flip side showcases the instruments played by each founding member of Queen, designed by Product Manager at the Royal Mint, Chris Facey as his debut coin design.
The instruments featured are Brian May’s Red Special guitar, John Deacon’s Fender Precision bass, Roger Taylor’s Ludwig bass drum, and Freddie Mercury’s Bechstein grand piano with the opening notes of “Bohemian Rhapsody” pressed down.
Fittingly, Queen is the very first band to be commemorated on a British coin.
“To have our band recognized and our music celebrated in this way is very touching, a real honour.” - Brian May, Queen guitarist
