Description
Description
Eighty years after the Allied triumph in Europe, Monnaie de Paris commemorates the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for freedom with the V-E Day 80th Anniversary €10 Silver Proof Coin – American Soldier.
This historic 2025 release pays tribute to James, an American officer of the 1st Infantry Division, whose journey embodies the strength and resilience of the U.S. forces during World War II. James landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and fought through the Battle of Normandy, including the breakthrough at Avranches (Operation Cobra) and the closing of the Falaise Pocket. His division advanced through Belgium, crossed the Siegfried Line, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and finally entered Czechoslovakia, where it witnessed the war’s closing moments.
The reverse design unites the flags of all Allied nations that took part in the Normandy landings — France Libre, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Australia, the USA, Norway, the UK, Czechoslovakia, Canada, and Belgium — arranged around the face value (10 €) and the “RF” monogram of the French Republic. Below, stars honour the Liberty Road, symbolizing the route taken by Allied forces from Normandy through France to Luxembourg — the path of liberation itself.
Struck in 99.9% fine silver to Proof quality, this limited-edition coin commemorates one of humanity’s greatest victories — the triumph of unity and the restoration of peace. With a mintage of only 1,945 coins, it’s a timeless keepsake for collectors and history enthusiasts alike.
